There is a small tripping up point with bi characters I think is worth noting. Its basically... once a bi character enters into a relationship with someone of the same gender in media... they're kinda stuck there. At the very least if that relationship ends you are kind of required to make their next partner the same gender also. Even if they remain bi they're basically stuck being homosexual because the queer audience will most likely riot otherwise. If you try to slip a bi character back into a heterosexual relationship it will mostly likely end in a segment of the queer audience absolutely rioting.Queer audiences tend to be... defensive... of what little rep we get. So anything that even resembles queerness being 'Erased' in media will get a gutteral backlash. And of course a bisexual person is bisexual in any relationship or no relationship they happen to be in...But Media is a different story and there is a double standard.

At the very least you need to reassure the audience they didn't get de-queered somehow - making them still get flustered or still being shown finding the same gender attractive would go a long way to reassuring the audience that they are still bi.

@Rasp You can even go as far as dating someone else bi and talking about what they each do and don't find attractive! Also if it's the sort of thing that comes up even casually in the story, not necessarily having particularly heteronormative preferences about the kind of sex they have or who they have particular kinds with...

@Rasp had no clue of this.I think I understand a bit better why there is such a big deal around bi erasure.OTOH I see why the queer community would freak out at seeing someone "cured". O_OBi representation is trickier than I considered.

@Rasp bi poly/non-monogamous gets around this, but yeah bi erasure by the queer community isn't new at all. 😒

@Rasp could you maybe have them date someone who identifies as non-binary with the opposite gender assigned at birth. It's a bit of a cop out but maybe it does not get the "they are not queer" anymore treatment.

@egypt @Rasp that no bisexuals are monogamous... yeah, but just about the only thing i ever agreed with dan savage about is that monogamous bi in long term relationships should be a bit more vocal so that they get counted. i'm not monogamous, but i'm old so i might as well be 😂. i try to really be forward about being bi so that i'm not vanished into my long term relationship. ...but being vocal also invites nastiness from other queers for being somehow not real bi by virtue of being in a ltr.

@Rasp @egypt but that's so often the locus of erasure, esp for bi people. i just expect that to get better without bi people speaking up about it or getting into media more and representing.

@Rasp Only Murders In The Building did this. Bi character goes from dating different gender to same gender to different gender over 3 seasons. I don't know if they got much backlash about it.
