Is Christ-like a helpful aspiration for people? After a trauma-triggered discussion, here is a case for its ease of abuse.

One of the more popular evangelical media groups is The Gospel Coalition (TGC). Let's see what they have to say on the matter.Let's look at the first 3 examples. "How a Husband Isn't Like Christ" is excluded.

@sentientmortal That last one is especially repulsive. If there's a Heaven, and the person who wrote that meets Jesus at the gate, they're going to get the tongue lashing of all tongue lashings on their way to the exit.

First, "I Want Christlike, Bible Reflexes." Raymond argues for Christian supremacy, that other perspectives -- even expert perspectives -- are inferior. Many people have wondered why evangelicals looked to their leaders and shunned expert advice on COVID. This was a long time coming.

Raymond had some early COVID work on TGC. A couple articles were readily available. Neither mentions anything about health care. Instead, he blames his readership as contributing to the event. He presumes that they should be grateful in the midst of their punishment proportionally to the level of punishment.

Next up is "The Christlike God". This is a brief review of John V. Taylor's work. Taylor is not a contemporary nor an American. The review is fairly brief but includes a disagreement with the author's perspective that divine delight in human suffering is appalling.

Finally, 'There Is No Greater "Good" Than to Become Like Jesus.'There are 4 paragraphs, and this is one of them.

Christianity is bigger (perhaps better) than evangelicalism. But who gets to tell society what "christ-like" means? Does that phrase empower the church to dictate morality?

Does equating Christ with goodness further the Christian supremacy initiative?

All this discussion of Christ, and what about the man himself? Maybe we take a rare critical eye at the person we want to bring peace?

@sentientmortal Remember, when asking What Would Jesus Do, fashioning a bullwhip out of nearby materials and using it to drive profiteers out of the church is a documented option.
