@judgedread the plucky robot delivering one liners, and a few other details may owe more to "quark". the larson pitch was true enough to the original material and cliffhanger style. star wars made sci fi popular at that time. https://youtu.be/bOhOWuooYVY

@judgedread went back and looked at the "armageddon 2149" that became buck rodgers. comparing it to the larson series, it holds up ok for the first season, but went off on mormon lost tribe themes in the second season, much like battlestar galactica.

@WaughheadRex I've read the original novel, it is pretty good and the comic took many ideas from it which then morph a bit further and are part of the series. Once they leave Earth it becomes an entirely different show. I haven't seen those episodes since they aired.
