Just got the Fakespot beta in #Firefox. It's a feature that checks #Amazon reviews (and other retailer sites) reliability and then adjusts the rating. It uses AI to detect fake or unreliable reviews. This was for a smart LED light bulb set originally rated 4.6 with 13,000 ratings. . . And I'm seeing this kind of aggressive adjustment in rating for about half the products I'm browsing.

@killyourfm wow I’ve always questioned these products with so many reviews. AI makes it even easier to flood the market. Thanks for the heads up, can’t wait to test this.

@jnv Interestingly, It's worth mentioning that I did find 2 similar smart LED products that retained their original rating (1 was an Amazon brand).

@killyourfm I wonder if this works only in US or also here in EU. I'll give it a try, thanks for sharing this!

@killyourfm I'd be very interested in knowing their inputs for their algo.Tracking fake networks on social media for years, I also ended up tracking fake review networks. Some of that research led me to micro-job sites where individuals & companies would pay anywhere from pennies to a dollar (in batches of 100 to 1000 or more) for genuine-sounding reviews. All real people; so, I'm curious how they parse that kind of thing in the algo.

@killyourfm How do we know these things are accurate? I'm all for detecting fake reviews, but so far as I understand it none of these detectors has any evidence they do their job well.

@killyourfm didn't realize that mozilla owned fakespot now. Makes me trust it even more now!
