Thirty minutes ago in my webinar, I told people they have to watch out for incorrect AI-generated stories on sites they used to trust, and now here's another example from MSN:How Microsoft is making a mess of the news after replacing staff with AIhttps://www.cnn.com/2023/11/02/tech/microsoft-ai-news/index.htmlh/t @KOKEdit #ai #chatGPT

@grammargirl @KOKEdit call me a luddite, but the idea of AI generated news stories seems like a dystopia to me.

@grammargirl Bing News/Microsoft News is absolutely a dumpster fire. It wasn't always so. Until a few years ago Microsoft employed human curators and it was a pretty great, fair aggregator of news from a wide range of sources. Now it's worse than useless.

@KOKEdit What's so frustrating is that this technology can be helpful when used alongside writers, but if you completely replace humans, any reasonable person could predict you'd get misleading and offensive garbage. Companies are being stupid and irresponsible.

@grammargirl @KOKEdit You'd think the money they save isn't worth torching their reputation in the process. 😡

@grammargirl @KOKEdit It's relatively easy to make predictions based on a static past. It's much harder to do so in a dynamic environment with adversarial actors. Zillow has a great real estate pricing model, but when they tried to actually buy and sell real estate themselves, they nearly went bankrupt because people found ways to manipulate their algorithm. There are lots of players who want to manipulate content for their own, not necessarily honorable, ends

@statesdj That whole Zillow fiasco was fascinating.
