I got turned down for a Python job because I only have 3 years of Django experience, and they wanted 6. 20+ years of writing large apps in Python with various frameworks, sure, but not those magic 3 years of Django.Kinda think I dodged a bullet there.

@danjac @tek that's a good point. It could well be they have an internal candidate but need to go through the motions to check externally before going "oh well I guess Jim over there has the job".I've seen it for job applications but also for tenders for hardware/services where they have oddly specific requirements.

@tek definitely sounds like a red flag.I recently got turned down for a Python job because I used pip-tools for their take-home test and that’s not “modern enough”. 🤷🏻♂️

@danjac @tek I was a freelancer for 20 yrs & this happened all the time. Especially when the hiring process included recruitment agents & HR people rigidly applying arbitrary checkbox filters (as here) that they didn't understand in order to exclude candidates. Agencies often did this because they could only submit a couple of CVs, effectively creating a shortlist for people to try to make it onto the hiring company's shortlist. And they still insisted there was a shortage of skilled IT staff.
