With the trial against Sam Bankman-Fried getting up to speed and token prices being down, for a year I've been hearing that the #web3 #blockchain community was never in it for the money but to build. So. What has that "community" been building? Which new kind of service, that solves actual peoples' problems has emerged from all that activity? Or is it building infrastructure again that's never going to be used for anything real?Any pointers?

@tante within the NFT crowd there was the constant claim that it would be a new way for artists to get paid for their work, and it led to nothing. one or two guys like beeple made a lot of money, various sleazy assholes made *some* money, and everyone else got some of their real money locked up in an ecosystem they couldn't get it out of, until it vanished in a puff of smoke.

@jraedisch Okay, that's just more crypto stuff based on crypto stuff. I don't think that this is any service non-bitcoiners care about, I consider that just more infrastructure with a dubious use case. But thanks for sending the link.

@tante IMHO as long as the graph stays linear, you are right. The community is inward centered, too. (That is sth, Mastdodon might be escaping right now, which is awesome.)
