Still getting abuse for a problem I did *not* cause. No apology, no rectification, no nothing from Asahi, who seem to enjoy this unwarranted abuse they sent my way.Interestingly enough, in their article about this, The Register made the exact same "mistake" I did because of the deliberately unclear GitHub article, yet there's no angry posts, demands, or abuse sent their way. I guess targeting the little guys is all Asahi can do.

I use #Fedora, but after the unwarranted harassment Asahi sent my way today, Fedora's active participation in Asahi is making me reconsider.

@thomholwerda I haven't read all the messages, but it's sad to see how open-source communities have always been about discussion and constructive engagement - there have never been a shortage of local biases or trolls, but they have always been a relatively small percentage. Many open-source communities today seem like battlefields. All of this is sad.

@stefano A simple "hey, this thing you said is actually wrong, but we didn't mention it in the GitHub article you're working off, so sorry about that. Could you fix it?" would've been enough. The article would've been fixed in a few minutes.

@thomholwerda You're always been collaborative - I don't understand why they decided to attack instead of just communicate.

@stefano Asahi doesn't like it when you mention they're at Apple's mercy when it comes to the M1/2/3 Macs. It seems that fact is a bit of a sore spot for them. 🤷‍♀️

@marcan @thomholwerda Since I hadn't been following the situation, I decided to go back and read the previous messages. All I can say is that I'm sorry for the situation because, as a Mac user, I greatly appreciate the work done by Hector on Asahi Linux, and I follow Thom's articles on osnews.com. I have great respect for both of you, that's why I'm sorry about all this. It's like when you see two friends arguing - you feel sorry because you wish all your friends would get along 🙂

@marcan Thank you for linking the article. I missed it. From this article, it is evident that rather than having an issue with you, the author has an issue with Apple - and you are caught in the crossfire as everything related to Apple is seen negatively as a result. I believe that when there is so much animosity, it is impossible to find common ground. As a Mac user, I find the article slightly offensive, and I realize that for those like you who work hard to bring Linux to a viable platform like Apple Silicon, it is extremely offensive. Now things are clearer, thanks again for the link, and keep up the good work. I am also a potential victim of the bug, and thanks to the disclaimer during the Asahi installation, I have decided to wait, avoiding a (solvable but unpleasant) potential issue.

@marcan @stefano this entire article from the start reeked of smugness and the typical "apple bad" purism a lot of Linux diehards have, that even when Linux runs on Apple hardware, it's tainted, because Apple.

@stefano @marcan From the perspective of someone neither using #Apple silicon nor #Linux (where avoidable) who just found this "by accident" in his timeline: What a mess! 🙃I'd say warning about using Apple silicon with some 3rd party OS isn't completely unfounded, after all, there's a history of Apple aiming for closed ecosystems. This doesn't necessarily mean putting down projects enabling to do that anyways...I think what we see here is a combination of confirmation bias (which, keep in mind, happens to *everyone*) with bad communication skills.First error: Instead of mistrusting your conclusions, you add some silly "told you so" paragraph. Even if the conclusions turned out to be correct, this would never look professional.Second error: Getting all defensive and playing the victim game when it turns out you were wrong.Confirmation bias is unavoidable. But there are much better ways to deal with it. 🙄
