One day, I stepped into my father's old rickety spaceship, and flew away from this small angry planet. I was only twelve, but I knew already that I was not wanted here. My classmates laughed at me when they learned I liked to play with younger kids. My teachers told me to sit still and use my imagination in more productive ways. My parents told me it was just a phase, and I should stop behaving so childish.To hell with all of them.Out there was a galaxy full of other planets and people. Some of them would be unwelcoming, or weird, or dangerous. But between all the countless stars, who said there couldn't be a place where I would be welcome? So I pointed the spaceship at a random star, and with much huffing and whizzing powered up the engine.Over the next 30 days of #nniavember, I would visit many planets and asteroids and meet many folks and ideas. Will you join me on this journey?

I would've sailed right past the lifeless lump of space rock, if not for the starlight reflecting in the eyes staring from behind bars. Why would someone imprison an innocent person and leave them floating through space all alone? I decided to find out."Welcome to my prison, traveler. My name's Nate.""Hi, I'm Elyas. How did you end up here?""Oh you see, I'm a convicted criminal. I am unable to feel love, which is mandated by law on my home planet. After all, how could you trust someone incapable of loving to participate in society? It just wouldn't be right.""Wait, so you didn't.. do anything bad?""Yes, but you see, there was once another person on our planet who didn't feel love, and they caused terrible pain to lots of people. It only makes sense that I'm imprisoned here, for the sake of everyone else."For the next couple of hours, I talked to Nate and tried to convince him that he was innocent, to no avail. In the end, I left him there in the prison of his own making. As I blasted off, I couldn't help wonder whether Nate was the only one from his planet who *was* capable of feeling true love.#nniavember

Today, I landed on a planet that looked like a lump of bare earth with green spots popping up like on a jaguar. The whole place was crawling with people, planting trees and digging lakes and building mountains. I saw one woman taking a break, so I asked her what why everyone was working so hard."We're creating our new home, where no-one can punish us or tell us what to do. It's going to be our paradise between the stars."I looked around in amazement, and saw only happy people, smiling, singing, helping each other out. It was such a contrast to my own home, where everyone only looked out for themselves and regarded others with suspicion. Maybe I could stay here? At least, I was curious to learn more about this place."How did you find such a nice empty and fertile planet?" I asked."Oh no no, we didn't find it. You are standing upon the ashes of evil. There were other people here before, evil people worshipping evil gods and performing evil deeds. We cleansed this planet in holy fire, burning everything and making fertile earth for our new home."I made a prayer for the people who had been buried beneath this fertile earth, and left without speaking another word.#nniavember

I was passing through a dead star system. Empty skeletons of planets orbiting a fading star. Had people once lived here, or had the star died before ever being properly born? I breathed slowly as I took in the sight of what could have been, what once had been, perhaps."Fills you with melancholy, doesn't it?"I startled at the voice that suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and started looking everywhere in the ship, underneath the dashboard and in the storage room in the back. Did one of the tree planters sneak in?"Don't worry, it's just me, the ship."The ship I had been piloting for four days... could talk?"All this time you were observing me, and you never thought to let me know?! You weren't watching me in the bathroom, were you?""Oh don't worry, your secrets are safe with me, GDPR and all that. Anyway it's nice to meet you, I'm KINO."I wasn't completely alone in this dead system, it seemed. I plumped down into the pilot seat, and absorbed this new information. Quietly, KINO and me watched the remains of the dead system, now together.#nniavember
