@sljr I only seriously started to do photography at the end of 2021. Prior to that, I always had an interest but intimidated by the subject.

@sljr I know I keep saying this, but thank you. 💜 I think the biggest hurdle for a lot of people is just ignoring that inner voice that tells you that you can't do it because you need gear X or you need perfect weather etc.Just going out and doing it really is what makes it happen. Ironically, I think my best photos are always the ones taken in the worst conditions, pouring rain, fog, snow etc. 😁

@ashqinmoe exactly my thoughts too. The best shots are when you least expect them to happen. Yes Fog and snow and rain do turn out to be really great shots because of the different moods it may show off. Please no need to say "I know I keep saying this" its okay.

@sljr just a hobby. I feel like the opportunities for being profitable in professional photography are more likely to be things like weddings.If you consider many weddings seem to require an early start, and then you stay late at night capturing the dinner party, then have to still process the images ASAP because the client wants to post them on social media etc. It's quite an unheathy life style. :)I like having a bit more variety. Recently been experimenting with portrait photography more.

@ashqinmoe Well I am a engineer who works with solidworks ( a 3-D program) , I draw stainless steel guards for industrial size conveyors,But for tech wise , I love tech for devices we use everyday. I know its crazy to say this but I love having the newest devices on hand. For software and mobile apps and platforms like this I am a huge advocate for social media. Decentralization platforms like Mastodon.

@sljr oh wow, I expect there are probably a lot of engineering consideration for those guards?I'm somewhat focused on what I like to do with tech. Cameras, music synthesizers, NMEA 2000 networks on sail boats etc.

@sljr social media on the otherhand is very hit and miss. We transition events in real life now to Facebook RSVPs and if you don't have a Facebook account, you make yourself out to be the difficult one. It's annoying.Social networks like Mastodon are very interesting, but lack the mass adoption and if I were a creator trying to make money, this wouldn't be the place to get work currently which is unfortunate. I'm though very hopeful for the potential of social networks such as this.

@sljr in the marine world, instead of using normal computer networks like ethernet, the big hardware companies that do things like depth meters, wind meters, auto pilot, autohelm speed logs, chart plotters, GPS made their own networking technology called NMEA 0183 and later NMEA 2000 to work with each other, they're hardened against sea water damaging the networking (although very bandwidth limited). It's a standard by which all these devices can communicate with each other.

@ashqinmoe oh wow that is actually really interesting. I had no idea that sailboats have that type of hardware and even network. I mean I probably should have somewhat guessed it would because they are in deep waters and need to communicate with people on land and other boaters around them.

@sljr in the old days, you would have a seperate screen displaying each devices information, now we have it all on one display like your chart plotter or tablets.The network NMEA 2000 networks are very primitive, lacks bandwidth (which is why they want to introduce a new system based on ethernet and IPv6, but inside the same hardened type of sea connectors and cables which is called NMEA OneNet, however virtually nothing supports it currently.
