remember when apple removed the headphone jack because it would allow for thinner phones? the last iphone with a headphone jack was 7.1 mmwell now it's 10 years later and the newest iphone is 8.25 mm

@lain @yokel it was never about the thickness of the phones, it was about water resistance.

@rdr @lain @yokel it can be true.Latest Sony Xperia phone specs say "IP65/IP68" (unsure why the dual notation here. One for dust and one for water? which one is which? We don't know!!)You read their detailed footnotes:> Sony devices that are tested for their water-resistant abilities are placed gently inside a container filled with tap water and lowered to a depth of 1.5 meters. After 30 minutes in the container...https://electronics.sony.com/mobile/smartphone/all/p/xqdq62-bMeanwhile iPhone 15:> These models have a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes)https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207043🎶 One of these things is not like the other 🎶

@rdr @lain @yokel and let's not forget that the requirements to properly design waterproofing of a headphone jack wastes a ton of space inside the phone.Where are you going to put it?

@Moon @feld @lain @yokel @Hyperhidrosis the Apple one for Type C works good on Apple devices im sure, but I bought one because it was cheap and available but it has ridiculously low volume on Android. Enough to use earbuds if you turn it up, but woefully inadequate for higher impedence cans. I got the Google adapter and now have three of them because they work so good. I also have some Tanchjim Ones that are earbuds with a Type C connection that aren't bad at all.

@fanf42 @yokel They make a cheap adapter providing a 3.5 mm jack, though, so you can easily use any regular headphones. It may be surprising, but connectors are often among the most expensive parts in an electronic device. Cost really may have been a factor here, especially with the desire for waterproofing.

@mansrI have owned multiple phones that were waterproof with headphone jacks. (Sony Z3c, Samsung Xcover 4). 3.5mm jacks are cheap and easy to waterproof because they are extremely simple.@yokel
