Just got a new battery from Walmart about a week ago and the Jeep has been starting weaker and weaker ever since.Alternator checked out good before replacing battery.

@NoBeret maybe battery was never the (real) problem and you've got something drawing overnights? And all could be grounding thing - also, annoying to get the ??? but, did you really scrape and clean the fuck out of your connections? Really....did you?!?!? Did you!?!

@NoBeret One symptom of a bad alternator is a power draw due to a bad diode but is still being able to charge the battery. Try unhooking the alternator hot while car is sitting to confirm. I didn't learn this until recently as it's supposedly a rare type of failure.

Battery check at Walmart says it's ok, electrical check at Advance says alternator, battery, and starter ok.

@NoBeret one bad cell can fuck with a battery and still show OK with Wallyworld training. The battery keeps getting charged, so the alternator sounds like its working. How are your terminal connectors and ground connections?

@billybon3s all that stuff is good, I even sprayed the connected terminals with corrosion stopper (Walmart guy was puzzled by it, lol).

@NoBeret @billybon3s Hello. You reference "corrosion stopper". Would that be the same as petroleum jelly, aka Vaseline? Not being facetious...genuinely curious.šŸ˜Ž

@NoBeret sounds like it's time for a resistance check on the starters hot wire & alternators charge wire while you have the DMM out. A cooked wire can have high resistance, which would cause the starter to seem weak.If those check out ok, the starter could be tired & needs to RIP in peace.Check the resistance when the motor is hot & cold, compare if it has higher resistance when hot.

@lola @billybon3s noNCP2 is an oil based battery terminal dressing.that other stuff you mentioned really isn't appropriate for an engine compartment

@NoBeret @billybon3s Does the corrosion stopper product you use have a brand name? Something known to the automotive products consumer?

@NoBeret @billybon3s Alright. Thanks. The only part of your response visible was the "no". For some reason the entire response wasn't rendering on the page. I'm able to see it now. Thank you.I thought petroleum jelly would be appropriate for an engine compartment just by virtue of the name...thank you again. Have a pleasant weekend.šŸ˜Ž

@lola @NoBeret Petroleum jelly would work as a water repellant in between spark plugs and wires, and other connectors. I'd recommend automotive grade for under the hood, but regular stuff will work in a pinch. The stuff for the battery terminals is similar, but it is different. Just ask for the battery terminal corrosion resistor stuff at any parts house. Make sure you start off with nice and clean terminals and clamps before applying.

@NoBeret @Schmilsson could it be the ground cable to the engine block? Or some starter solenoid?

@NoBeret @HaleakalaCrater not sure how much i would trust the check they do at the parts store, but it is sounding like something fixed itself. Maybe a starter relay. I’d still recheck all the connections from battery/alt to starter and grounds.
