"Cities Skylines II is using Coherent UI which under the hood is using embedded(modified) Chromium which then runs html+js (probably ReactJS?) as the game UI."God is dead.https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/17gfq13/the_game_does_render_individual_teeth_with_no_lod/k6l6qgx/

@volpeon :comfywoozy: godot has an actual gui. one of the reasons i like it.wonder how hard it would be to get avalonia or uno working inside unity though. the WPF clones are miles better than that garbo

@volpeon Not the first html+js game though, we have had those for ages, for example CrossCode.

@volpeon@is-a.wyvern.rip And I already thought that in the first game it was to hard to get a decently high framerate in a medium sized city.

@volpeon I think it's time to embed a full OS into games now

@volpeon ahhhhhhh It is made in Unitx, why are they not just using the Unity UI. How was it less resources to add a whole chromium API into the game then just having a training on unity UI

@volpeon and long story short, that is how I found out that "Minecraft Bedrock Edition uses Chromium for its UI" is something I can finally throw in the faces of all the "Microsoft should rewrite Minecraft in C++ for better performance" criers from ten years ago. What a world we live in.

@volpeon Oh, wow, I recognize this one!Coherent UI was used by Dirty Bomb too (this was like, 2014).It ran *so fucking bad* the devs couldn't make the main menu run at more than like, 20 FPS. It was also notorious for the child (Chromium) processes hogging memory and crap like that.Luckily they used Scaleform instead for the actual in-game HUD and stuff so actual gameplay perf wasn't an issue, but it still meant there was *two* options menus and a bunch of stupid shit like that.
