@lina@eientei.org Right about what? The only point I could make out in your rambling is that you don't want normal users on IRC. And I doubt that will happen anyway because IRC doesn't have stuff like actual avatars, custom emojis and what not.

@volpeon several points, primarily the fact that no existing IRC user ever asked for a discord-esque client and the fact that said normal users would never use another app next to discord, i have firsthand experience of trying to get people to use something elseso yes, i don't think targeting normal users when developing a client for obscure chat protocols is a smart idea because outside of sysadmins wanting something secure and comfy, they're also used by people that are FUCKING SICK OF MODERN USER INTERFACES, that's why i use xmpp and psi

@lina@eientei.org If Discord users won't use IRC anyway, and people who do won't use my client because it looks too similar to modern chat interfaces, then what's the problem? I'm developing this client for fun and literally don't care if I end up being the only one using it.

@lina @volpeon the reason a lot of people stick with Discord right now, there aren't really technical, that works consistently well and can handle large groups. It's not the best, but it works.If you told someone to use IRC, then you also have to give a lot of warnings of things that work as they expect, such having to continuously connect unless using a relay to receive messages.For many people, that can be a put off if the thing they already use gets them what they want.Why do you care?
