@volpeon i think this is kind of misleading because it only factors in accuracy, rather than actual successful bypasses. captchas are really just meant to get you to click around so they can measure how “human” your clicks appear. a 100% success rate in half the normal time isn’t human behavior, and will probably get you blocked. captchas also identify spam based on IP address and how real your browser looks (try to solve a captcha from your regular browser vs on tor)

@volpeon I do agree that captchas aren’t very good at deterring all but the laziest scrapers, considering you can buy like 10,000 captcha solves for $5

@volpeon could go the opposite way, if it takes a while and makes some mistakes it's probably a person. Google might as well start doing this and we'll never know

@volpeon I would like that bot as a browser extension. For me, forms are 60% chance of: submit, get an implicit or explicit error, whitelist recaptcha.net, reload, whitlelist gstatic.com, reload...

@suqdiq @Roxanne @volpeon All CAPTCHAS need a built-in alternative path for people with accessibility needs. I know there are systems to “help out” people who need it with CAPTCHAS but I don’t think that cuts it. Like saying “that door isn’t wheelchair accessible just have an employee help you”.

@DeltaWye @suqdiq @Roxanne @volpeon Some captchas are providing a path for accessibility, and I've seen a dev talking about it, as he uses theses accessibility path for his bots for better accuracy.

@Joris @volpeon here you go: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/buster-captcha-solver/it uses speech to text recognition to solve Recaptcha's accessibility option.

@soap > how real your browser looksAnd they have solved it years ago by using "headless" browsers :marseylaughwith: I don't think that CAPTCHAs nowadays solve any purpose mainly because they got overused — if you have to do something 1000 times a day, eventually it will get automated and from this point it will just piss real people off. It's okay to undergo a complex procedure once, when you are signing up for an account, but why is there a CAPTCHA when I'm just logging in? Brute force countermeasures? When we have 2FAs? What for?Why do I need to confirm I'm human to download a file? :marseywtf2: @volpeon

@m0xEE @volpeon no i agree with you i just think the study isn’t great. captchas are mostly meaningless for anything other than adding a 8 second delay to certain spam actions
