@valvin I’d be thrilled if this were accurate, but I’m skeptical. It suggests almost 3/4s of fediverse users use RSS to some degree. If that number were real, far more people I know would be using RSS daily, and they are not. I strongly suspect what pollsters call “social desirability bias” may be at play here, when respondents provide answers they believe are socially acceptable or favorable, rather than their true beliefs or opinions.

@shoq @valvin I don't think respondents are lying, if that's what you are implying. But there is probably a bit of selection going on, where people who would answer "no" just don't read past the first line.

@rkaj @shoq to be honest I'm a bit surprised of the current result but I think you are right people who don't know RSS might not read this survey. by the way there are many answers.

@valvin If I could read the fediverse including material requiring login via RSS, I'd switch over entirely.

PeerTube has that and it’s super nice, @feonixrift, and though for microblogs personally I wouldn’t want it, since I always feel obliged to check every feed entry out (and subject/title is lacking at worst or used as cryptic content warning at best). Not a reason for such feature to not be implemented, just pointing out how it might not meet thy expectation. Cc: @valvin

If that number were real, far more people I know would be using RSS dailyNot really, @shoq, only if thou knowst a significant number of fedizens IRL; and even on fedi, this poll isn’t random sampling, but propagated by people caring about web feeds. Cc: @valvin

@valvin i use liferea to track things (blogs, YT channels, podcasts), but i never read/watch/listen to anything in it (always use "Open in external browser"). Vastly preferable to any non-RSS alternative I've come across so far.So, "no" but "yes" :)

always use “Open in external browser”FYI @PaulDavisTheFirst Liferea can be configured to open multimedia using a player of choice. In YouTube’s case, its Atom still has a link as an attachment, so I just use mpv to play it. The same of podcasts.@valvin, this is why I’m a bit disappointed that none of thy examples is a local program.

@valvin QuiteRSS here. Podcast, yuri mangas, anime, news...I do think that RSS is unusable "as is" most of the time. If it wasn't for QuiteRSS having a "filter" function I think I would have ended up stopping to check feeds altogether. Now it's more important to me than mails. When you remove the bloat and all the news is things you want to check, it's so COMFY.

@valvinQuiteRSS user here, though most of my feeds are atoms. I got back into newsfeeds recently. I can't keep up with everything, though...

@ddlyh Did you find the filtering feature ? It's such a must. Can't do without it anymore.Find what you don't like, their commonality. Create a filter. Done ! FOREVER !
