Ads now in a Amazon Prime Video? is this #enshitification ? Started watching Meercat Manor (narated soap opera with meercats), and a couple of times in 20 minutes up come ads you can not fast forward through.:(. 💩

@brewsterkahle It was recently announced that they'd be adding ads to prime video, unless you pay an additional $2.99 per month to remove them.

@brewsterkahle I’ve never understood Amazon Prime, and in all the years they’ve offered it I’ve never paid for it. Oh, I’ve used it plenty—but only when offered a free trial.Prime content had lackluster video quality in the early years and, to my knowledge, still doesn’t offer 5.1 sound by default like say Netflix does (put another way, my subwoofer never wakes up for Prime movies and shows).The idea that Prime now has forced ads?! Omg, hell yeah, enshittification.

@brewsterkahle some third party shows have always had ads. best guess is it’s some part of an extremely tenuous distribution deal

@jank0 the show has an intro video that says "FreeVee" so many it is imported from some other service. but all it in, the ads are not welcome.

@brewsterkahle Amazon is a profoundly evil company.Rather than sending them more money, it would be better to copyright violate their material, and then use the money to send to individual creators.Bandcamp is currently my favorite place for directly sending money to musical creators, at least. Let's hope it continues to serve for this purpose.

@brianstorms my family orders so much through amazon that the free-delivery part of amazon prime is worth it.Their grocery service raised the free-delivery threshold so high, that my wife stopped using it.

@brewsterkahle I've seen the same thing on Hulu. "Oh! Which ad am I not as less-interested in?" At least they give me a timer countdown in the upper corner so I know when to unmute.
