The conflict in Israel/Palestine has a history of several thousand years, including atrocities and genocide committed in the name of all three major world religions. It is impossible to look back, point at one of the groups involved, and say: “They started it, it’s their fault.” with any chance of being right. Because we don’t have records that are reliable and go back far enough. Because all hands involved are dirty. Because all parties have suffered. Because the real world is complex./1

A successful resolution of the conflict would require everyone to step back, apologize profoundly, and let go of all that hatred, fostered and learned over generations and across cultures and religions. It’s a monumental task, that would take decades to achieve. I find it extremely difficult to stomach all the well-meant, but unavoidably simplistic and dangerously naive comments and opinions, that ultimately only fuel the aggressions everywhere./fin

@weltraumpirat This reminds me of the "Escalation" trap in Donella H. Meadows "Thinking in Systems", where actors in an overall system are locked in an ever-escalating, runaway cycle which is a hard, "policy-resistant" problem; negotiating a deescalation out or unilateral deescalation in the hope of breaking the cycle listed as approaches.
