Reading "Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor" by Leonardo Boff for my Moral Theology class. This book is a heretical, blasphemous, and fundamentally pagan and pantheistic work unworthy of the title of Catholic theology. I shudder to think about how much money I'm paying for this 'Catholic' education, and the scandal misinformation like this is causing our students who don't know any better.

@jforseth210 So O Googled "Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor" and that led me down a path that told me I'm an awful human being for for voting 'No' to the "Voice" referendum in Australia. Based on that, I agree...

@jim Oh, I see that phrase is used elsewhere. I'm referring to this book: https://archive.org/details/cryofearthcryofp0000boff

@jforseth210 Yeah, I found it. Seems a bit... new age?

@jim Yeah. For a purportedly theological text, it doesn't talk about God much, and doesn't take Him very seriously when it does. Talks a lot about "Gaia" and even calls man a "true Satan of the Earth"

@jforseth210 Yikes. And this is required by your 'Catholic' university? I figure you don't want to get yourself into trouble, but have you considered raising an objection to this text?

@jim Other questionable lines:"At a deep level, it can now be seen as the Great Mother who nourishes and bears us. She is the great and bountiful Pacha Mama (Great Mother) of the Andean cultures, or a living superorganism, the Gaia of Greek mythology and modern cosmology.""peoples of both East and West witness about the Earth as the Great Mother with two thousand breasts to signify her ineffable fruitfulness is being increasingly confirmed by modern experimental science.""God has not finished God’s work yet, and has not even finished creating us. We should therefore be tolerant with the universe and patient with ourselves, because the final word “and God saw that it was good” has not yet been pronounced. This will happen only at the end of the evolutionary process.""internal logic of the evolutionary process (the organizing mind, as it were, of the cosmos itself) continues to act synergetically to keep the cosmological arrow of time heading toward ever more relational and complex kinds of beings."

@jim If it'd change anything I might. To who? The prof will hear me out, but won't actually do anything. Someone in the Theo program? No luck there, our whole theology dept is rotting. The college administration is lukewarm at best. If I just keep climbing the ladder, I'd get to the Bishop before I found anyone who'd do anything and he's already doing all he can. I could talk to the chaplain, or someone in Campus Ministry/Catholic Studies, but I doubt it'd be anything new for them.

@jforseth210 @jim my life experience has taught me that, usually, this kind of blatant disregard for philosophy (latu senso) comes from bureaucrats and middle managers. I imagine a change would need to be enforced top-down.

@benis @jforseth210 Yes, I agree. But I doubt 'aiming for the top' will end well. Better to start low and see what happens.

@jim @jforseth210 it's not like I'm recommending against trying, I'm just pointing out how I've never seen such a "person" listen to anyone on a hierarchically lower position
