Biden's speech on Ukraine and Israel is worth watching. A few quick reflections:1) Biden explained why it is in U.S. own national interest to support Ukraine. 2) Good to mention that the money to Ukraine is creating American jobs and modernizing the American weapons stockpiles. Frankly, Ukraine is doing the U.S. a favor by shooting off ammunition that is approaching end of life and would cost money to dispose of. The ATACMS missiles that Ukraine fired the other day were about to be decommissioned anyways. 2/3

3) It looks like the conflict in Israel will make it easier to get funding for Ukraine approved in Congress. There is a lot of people talking about how the situation in Gaza is beneficial for Russia, but I don't think so. 3/3

@anderspuck The guy who is too old just made a fast trip to Israel and made a compelling foreign policy speech to explain our current jeopardy. There is no one else running, including Dean Phillips and all Republicons, who has the ability to do this. Only #Biden understands the world’s need for a powerful democracy and articulates it.

And the spending on Ukraine is less than 10% of the US military budget - but this 10% is doing the job for which this military budget exists in the first place. @anderspuckYou should make a video about why you think so. The people I follow who are talking about #Russia benefiting from #Gaza frame is as #Putin wanting to be an agent of chaos. Somehow that fits in his idea of a "multipolar world." I'd be curious to hear your perspective!

@anderspuck @aurochs @hajovonta Ukraine might be just a small piece of a much bigger thing.Ukraine might not be the target, US and Israel as well. Autocracies, or de facto autocracies, have one common enemy - the fact information based democracy.For an autocracy, keeping power and economical growth is important, but everything is relative. Caos and war leads to misinformation which undermines democracy.

@chowderman @DeeGLloyd I doubt Russia was behind the crisis or directly enabling Hamas, but obviously they will now do whatever they can to turn the situation to their advantage. Putin is great at that kind of ad-hoc politics, so we may see them come up with ways to escalate.

@chowderman @DeeGLloyd I have not seen any kind of evidence supporting the idea that Wagner was training Hamas. It also seems like a big risk for Russia to take, given that they traditionally have a good relationship with Israel.Iran is possibly involved. I don't know if they can control Hamas directly, but it is possible that they provided the means. I don't think we should assume that Russia can control Iran. They are a big country and in many ways an equal partner.

@anderspuck @DeeGLloyd Israel and Russia were on opposing sides during the Cold War, and Putin is a man of little original thought.Yes, there was a closeness between Russian Jews and Israel, but Jews seem to have lost their influence since last year, the chief rabbi of Moscow advising Jews to flee.Putin and the Israeli right were close, I suggest we have just discovered how loyal Putin is, or how close he really felt to them/can feel to anyone.
