"In the last 6-8 months... the landscape for non-corporate media businesses has tightened dramatically. Independent media content is increasingly hard to find via platform searches, even when exact terminology, bylines, or dates are entered by users. Social media platforms that once provided effective marketing and distribution at little to no cost are now difficult to navigate even with the aid of paid boosting tools."#MattTaibbi, Oct 2023https://www.racket.news/p/youtube-hits-orf-again-as-censorship#censorship

@mahaska> Street papers like @streetrootsfeed are the only sources of real news that is NOT controlled by corporationsIt's worth remembering that newspapers began as newsletters, delivered to subscribers through the postal system. There was a diverse range of them, each with their own angle and biases. The idea of newspapers as a source of unbiased "journalism" only came in with capitalists investing in them. Allowing them to massively increase advertising, printing and circulation.

@strypey Yes the corporate papers are crap but Street Roots is not owned or in anyway controlled by a corporation. https://streetroots.org has been putting out some real articles.

@mahaska > Street Roots is not owned or in anyway controlled by a corporationMy point was that papers like this are an example of a return to the non-corporate roots of newspapers. Sorry that wasn't clear. SubStack newsletters with paid subscribers are another example.
