Could we consider on the #Fediverse and #Mastodon that some Meta or non Meta Editors review federating requests before new instances make harm?I know that would mean a federated "line of conduct", like in any real world federation...

@olireiv unfortunately I don't think the #ActivityPub protocol is coded this way. There is the #Fediblock project that is a collaboration from #MastoAdmin around #Mastodon, but that requires admins to notice the offending instances organically through federation after an offense.Though I have a feeling @evan would know more and might be interested in popping into this discussion for more insight.

@BeAware @olireiv it's possible to do "allow list" federation (deny by default) but most implementations do "deny list" federation (allow by default). There are just too many instances (>10,000) to review by hand. And there are more every day.

@evan @BeAware That's the point of federating editors, ten thousands of instances/domains is small when compared of what has been achieved by voluntary editors, elsewhere. So the impossible doesn't apply here, that's just a matter of organising moderation.Added later: I think that would be a minimum to conform to the GDPR, as a social media.

@olireiv @BeAware We don't do this for any other kind of Internet federation.Nobody has to approve an email domain before it's allowed to send and receive messages, and nobody has to approve a web site before it's allowed to receive visitors and make links.
