I genuinely can't tell if this piece suggesting replacing engineering management with AI is satire or not: https://www.engineeringcalm.com/p/replacing-engineering-managers-withEither way, it helped crystallize a thought for me: the jobs least at risk from AI are the ones where not being gullible is essential to that roleA key part of good management is being able to see through the bullshit and figure out what's actually going onThe same is true of the vast majority of "knowledge work" to be honest

@simon Half the time, as I will honestly admit to any engineer. It's less science of knowing what is bullshit, and more the reality that you've not enough space, or carrying capacity to place everything in your inventory at once.If tired, I might say I'm cutting out the bullshit.I'm absolutely open to the fact I can be wrong; and other folks managing anything, including their own time should be honest. If not with me, or others, with themselves.

@simon hahahahahah. I enjoy using gpt,/Claude/bard to check my work or try to look for alternatives to solutions I've deployed and I feel VERY safe currently that LLM AI cannot in reason it's way thru anything the author lays out here. LLMs don't think, at worst they amplify popular bad solutions, and cannot generate original ideas. An LLM is trained on history with no concept of analysing past mistakes, or a look to future. Now.. 2 more years? We'll see.

@simon " . . . A key part of good management is being able to see through the bullshit . . . "And yet there is so much poor management that actually creates the bullshit, it almost seems like this could be a point for the article.

@simon @kstewart I’d say pretty much everything the EMAI is supposed to do is indicative of a low-functioning team.It further reinforces my opinion that AI isn’t a problem but the people that train it are

@simon If you got "knowledge work" in quotes, maybe you'd like to have "conceptual labor" on hand? https://www.conceptuallabor.com/why-we-need-a-theory#fnref:fn9
