       Another enshitification proof point re Social Media which we’ve all seen before - ad targeting.  In the past, I’ve been targeted for “ Christian cowboy” sites due to all my horseback riding. I am neither a Christian or a cowboy.Over the last week my feed is filled with stupid happy go lucky ads for Chanukah decorations alongside videos of  kidnapped and missing children.So broken.I know anyone here knows this just had to vent

       @debs targeting is really really poorly implemented by a lot of sites. On FB I'm getting a lot of private school ads (which isn't horrible targeting as I have been researching private school options for middle school and beyond for my son) but it includes ads for day schools not in my state, for preschools, for schools emphasizing their kindergartens etc. I feel bad for the schools whose ad dollars are being utterly wasted

       @debs THIS. @Rycaut the emotional and psychic toll has to matter. Facebook and LinkedIn both *still* send me notifications for deceased friends, to celebrate their birthdays. There's really basic stuff like that; bombing me with air purifier ads, knowing I live in a wildfire zone... or with self-defense ads, in the midst of a shooting crisis. Targeting what could be our most primal survival needs, also puts empaths in a spiral—and changes all of our behaviors. It's not right.
