@RTP Correct me if I am wrong, but they can't access or enforce anything on thousands of people running their own servers with any of the many possible chat protocols. This will only affect the centralized popular services.

@RTP In a way, this law has a bright side by pushing more people to decentralization and FOSS. If they know those centralized services are burnt, people will finally get off of them. Similarly if client side scanning is mandated in proprietary OS's, people will switch up their operating systems. These laws could do more than my begging of friends could ever do. 😉

The number of people still on ex-twitter shows how optimistic that argument is.In fact, scanning for "known" illegal content just increases the incentive to make new illegal content that avoids the scanners. This proposal will do active harm.

@Bernard @RTP I have no faith in the general public anymore. If it's more convenient to give up all privacy to keep using what they're familiar with, the overwhelming majority of users will.

@SuperSnekFriend @RTP Israel lobbied to have backdoors put in on all phone calls, ostensibly to help law enforcement, but really used it to help Israeli drug traffickers, AIPAC spies, and 9/11 terrorists. This goes back to 1994.
