@stux @space_cadet The ministers in a church provide services to their congregants, and not just on Sundays. In many churches, the “offering” is voluntary. In other churches, it is mandatory based on one’s income level (like a club membership). In either case, it is tax deductible in the US because churches are viewed as charitable organizations.

@ramsey @stux OK I shall explain my joke, thereby making it un-funny.When a livestock animal is "serviced" it means to put a male and a female together alone, and let Nature take its (inter-)course. So if you go to a church for a Service, you are gonna get fucked, and you're gonna pay for the privilege. So in that sense, perhaps the Tax laws can actually make a case about Churches.

@stux @space_cadet More often, it’s not mandatory, in which case, the ministers might preach entire sermons on giving to the church to guilt members into giving money.IMO, if you go to church and believe you are getting value from the experience (and why would you take part if you didn’t believe it had value?), you should give money to it.
