@SIC_Guy @EbonicTutor I was looking for a nice hobby that I could zone out to and was low cost to enter so that's why I went with what I did. My worry was if I threw in a bunch of money on higher end kits and didn't like it I would have wasted cash. In the end I've had a lot of fun even with the cheapies. I imagine the higher end or more complicated ones take even more time but I look forward to giving it a shot once I work my way up to it.

@SIC_Guy @EbonicTutor So do people use highlighting markers and paints to add more detail or as replacements for the god awful stickers or both? Frankly using those Japanese marker pens seems like a better alternative to spending 20 minutes getting a sticker in the perfect position.

@Edge @Jim You gotta use your pinky as an anchor. It's not fool proof, but it helps a ton. My dad did plane kits and he'd never waste a water decal.

@blackpyro @SIC_Guy @EbonicTutor Since the kits I'm assembling are lower end ones the stickers are minimal and the color scheme not super complicated so I figured it might work out. I imagine if the designs get more complex I'm going to have to develop an actual ability to paint later on.

@Jim @SIC_Guy Most definitely, there is also panel liner paint to make the cracks jump out really good. Some people even engrave more lines into stuff to customize them.Also for cleaning up the burrs on the edges where the runners connect to the pieces you might want a good pair of nippers and a mirrored glass file. The glass file will make the edge plastic shiny after you sand the edges down.

@Jim @SIC_Guy I made trees that had been hit by like nukes / bomb blasts by taking sticks and hitting em with a blowtorch, and made hills by sanding Styrofoam into the shape I wanted then painting it brown and sprinkling sand on it, then hitting that with spray glue and sprinkling more sand.

@Tadano @Jim you can get really good Chinese copies of more expensive airbrushing equipment if you're interested in that, I would recommend getting something inexpensive and practicing your technique though to see if it's something that you would really even be interested in doing as a hobby.

My friend Ted turned me on to some of his hobbies before he went away for a bit. It was fairly low cost stuff and you could get the supplies at just about any local hardware store. Woodworking, chemistry, electronics, engineering, etc.Whenever we finished a build in his little workshop/cabin he'd mail it off to one of his pen pals in another state.I would say that I'd get you his address so you could write him and ask about it but I think he went to be with the Lord not too long ago.Sure do miss him sometimes.

@Tadano @AWIVR @Jim I'd imagine it's really similar to using a paint gun. Too close and it runs, too far away and you'll get a texture with bad coverage. The key is to stay the same distance for the "stroke" or w/e you would call it and keep moving. It just takes practice, like anything.
