I think there's not enough discussion about post-COVID depression.

@Wolven That's so true. People who have had COVID or currently have Long COVID may be afraid to speak up about how they feel, physically and mentally, but it can be very therapeutic.

Which, to be fair I guess, it's pretty hard to distinguish depression-as-a-lingering-COVID-symptom from "hey it's midterm grading stress time and the world is slowly imploding into a hellscape of flaming nothingness, all cropping up right at the tail end of my COVID experience." Like… chicken/egg, yeah? But still. The idea of the connection between COVID and depression seems to me an under-theorized and under-researched area.

@Wolven There's also the interesting and presumably related question of depression as a COVID risk factor. Brain things.

@Wolven I think there is a whole array of psychological and emotional stuff that is pretty much entirely ignored. It’s hit a ton of people I know very hard.

@Wolven Yeah, it's rough and hard to sort out. Like, I've been struggling with depression since around when I got covid eaely last year, been hard getting out of bed in the morning and just rough all around. But is it from covid, or from the fact that we basically gave up on mitigation as a society. Is it from covid, or from the fact that my job required 100% in the office for my unit, despite the fact that I can do 80% of my duties remote and many other units were able to work full remote. And meanwhile the commute is bad again, drivers seem to have become bigger assholes, the climate is messed up, and there are worrying trends and events in both the world and in the USA. So it is really hard to sort out how much is covid, and how much is everything else!

@Wolven While I think there is far too much discussion about how we feel and not enough about what we do.

@Wolven My lay theory is that since we’ve learned COVID is also a bacteriophage, some amount of post-COVID damage and dysfunction could be attributed to sudden changes in the gut biome. The effect this has on the nervous system, and our cognitive and emotional states seems very under-explored.

@Wolven I agree it's understudied, but it's often listed among the long-term effects of covid. Although I guess in some cases it's just a consequence of how much other symptoms negatively affect your quality of life. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-long-term-effects/art-20490351

@Wolven Exactly. I have post-COVID depression and mental vacancy. I don't like it. Next, what am I going to do about it? Ideas?
