       @dneary I actually think that might even be the most likely scenario now.  But it’s going to require not just agreeing on a compromise Speaker with the Democrats, but agreeing to some rules changes – this is only going to happen if Democrats get some ability to bring things to the floor, some influence over process, etc.  It’s going to be an old-fashioned legislative procedure deal, if it happens at all.I think Jeffries and the Democratic caucus have both the stomach and the skill to arrive at such an arrangement.  Clearly much of the GOP caucus does not, but maybe enough of it does?

       @dneary I'm going to be teasing my friend Brian Fitzpatrick mercilessly because there's a Republican Representative with that exact name (from Pennsylvania) who is actually a pretty plausible candidate for that centrist GOP compromise Speaker.

       @dneary @therealfitz IKR!  And – though there’s some controversy on this point – there is good reason to believe the Speaker of the House of Representatives does not need to be a Member of the House [1] [2].  So we just need some current rep to nominate @therealfitz and, who knows, ${OUR_FITZ} could actually become Speaker!  Wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to this country.  Plus he’s got a really good set of speakers himself, too – real room-filling beasts, optimized for deep soundscape.  I can’t remember the brand name now, but I’ve experienced ‘em and they’re way better than Steve Scalise or Jim Jordan.Join us, everyone!
