Did you know that only 2-3 moths ago a wave of protests rocked streets of towns in #Gaza *against* #Hamas rule? The article mentions a number of interesting nuances of the political situation in Gaza, with the region being not uniformly populated and with significant divided in support for Hamas. It also mentions incidents of bulldozing houses... no, not by Israeli army, but by local Palestinian authorities, which triggered the summer protests.https://www.timesofisrael.com/protests-agai...

@kravietz These weren’t the first protests against Hamas either, and Hamas tends to put them down violently.Palestinian discontent with Hamas doesn’t get a lot of attention for some reason.

@MisuseCaseI suppose this is because world media prefer to see things in dichotomies rather than spectrums, thus largely playing to the régime's preferred picture of "indivisible nation".

@kravietz I've wondered why Hamas “suddenly” erupted like this, in this particular period in time. Not knowing at all enough to speak about it, it still gave me Putin vibes. Like, “when you feel you are losing power, start a war. Make the world fear you.”

@MariaLiv100% my feeling. Especially that just before the war Israel opened borders to workers from Gaza...

@kravietz @MariaLiv Don't rush to give the bastard too much credit though. The conflict certainly is beneficial to him, but attributing it to him directly imparts more power to him than he might have.Instigating? Very likely. But the sucker won't be able to tear such horrendous chasms w/o there being a kind of ill-fertile ground present.A reminder to not spare the sore spots the needed love and attention.
