Well Yes but actually no There is a resistive heating element but its insulated from the water and its actually fairly safe so long as its properly installed and grounded.

@Rasp @GoodNewsGreyShoes seems like itd save a shit ton of energy costs over keeping a whole water tank heated!!

@hi_cial @GoodNewsGreyShoes Not really a hot water tank is VERY well insulated and is actually quite power efficient especially the more recent heat pump models

@Rasp @chjara you kinda do get used to it, my grandfather installed his own outdoor shower, and somehow the copper pipe got energized. It would zap you every time you went to adjust the temp or turn the water off. (current me would have just tracked the problem down and fixed it, but I was a kid without any electrical experience)

@Rasp Ackshually the resistive element is usually in direct contact with the water (in the model of the picture for example). Grounding is essential. Preferably with a ground fault protection device

@Rasp @hi_cial @GoodNewsGreyShoes The tank is better, but the upfront cost plus installation is prohibitive for most people. That shower is 7-12 bucks, but it wastes too much energy. Eco/smart showers are a bit more expensive but saves more energy.Ground connection isn't a given for most houses down here :hurb:
