Europe is an ageing continent. According to a recent Eurobarometer survey, Europeans also think that population ageing (42%) is the most pressing demographic challenge. We've launched a wide range of tools around 4 pillars to address this issue: 1. Balance family and work life2. Support younger generations 3. Empower older generations and sustaining their welfare4. Address labour shortagesWith this, we call on countries to develop policies to tackle demographic change. #EU

@EU_Commission the demographic transition is not going to be easy. As we move to a more rectangular population structure there will be a temporary elderly bulge, but given time that will pass, as the cliff of mortality hasn't really moved much beyond 95 years... At least the last time I looked at ONS figures about 5 years ago.

@EU_Commission the major demographic influence was the death control achieved during 20th cent. A mix of hygiene, immunisation, and often overlooked health care.CoI I had a CABG 23 years ago, so I'm now 16 plus years past my expected life span, for which I'm grateful. Access to health care saves lives.

@EU_Commission Another way to target demographic decline is to extend healthy lifespans. #Longevity science is making slow but steady progress and the conference for the future of europe did show some popular support for adding public resources toward this research.More automation further reduces the amount of working people required to maintain our quality of life, and UBI or negative income tax would spread the benefits fairly for greatest social stability...
