in hindsight it may have been a mistake to google "gimp mask" to try to figure out how to do a layer mask in gimp, the free and open source equivalent of photoshop#gimp

@Lazarou @fraggle @ProfessorGumby @molly0xfff I like the idea I've seen of the rest of us calling it Gnu IMP, and not caring if the creators like it. I think I'm gonna try to make a habit of that. Though I am still not sure whether to pronounce the "G," I must confess.

@marymessall @Lazarou @fraggle @ProfessorGumby @molly0xfff Why not just call it by the full name: "GNU Image Manipulation Program".I think the g in GNU is supposed to be pronounced. It is some bit from an old children's tv show (space rollercoaster?) in the 1980s.A puppet named Gary Gnu would do "news" and every time he said a word which starts with a n sound (such as news or gnu), would start it with a g sound. So news would be pronounced g-news, or gnu would be g-new. Emphasis on the g.
