TIL that only reason why the 1987 John Hughes Thanksgiving-comedy movie “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” was rated R by the MPAA, was because in one scene, Steve Martin’s character used the word “fucking” 18 times in the span of 55 seconds.https://movieweb.com/planes-trains-automobiles-why-rated-r/#til #todayilearnedhttps://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/1751wiu/til_that_only_reason_why_the_1987_john_hughes/

@todayilearned John Hughes used to write for National Lampoon and was hysterically funny. In fact, a story he wrote, Vacation '58, was the basis for the Family Vacation. The story, Vacation '58 is a parody of Flannery O'Connor's A Good Man is Hard to Find.https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/read-john-hughes-original-national-811591/

@todayilearned And I hate every "family-friendly" edit that cuts every delicious f-bomb. It is such a defining scene for the otherwise mild-mannered character.
