An obviously minor complaint, but does my Oxford English Dictionary account really need to be more secure than my bank? I have to log in fresh every time I go there, even if it's just an hour later than when I was there before. Also, did you know there are 8 different British pronunciations of "orangutan"?

@grammargirl @JamesGleick the biggest and most stupide lach in #infosec is the lack of an international safe way to log in. Its mindbogglingly stupide that governments have not setup a platform-free decntralized authenticatie scheme. We can do #dns, surely a login service is possible. Why do we have to remember a trillian passwords? Because of that failure

@grammargirl This is a problem that I carefully avoid by (some might say antiquated and pernicious) use of the two volume Compact Edition of the OED, which renders all eight volumes into two through the use of minuscript and a handily furnished magnifying glass. Of course, I may go blind, but it doesnât require passwords.

@grammargirl Ever since we tragically lost the use of the words âmellifluousâ and âsesquicentennialâ due to a ransomware attack, dictionary sites have demanded greater security from all their users. I realize itâs inconvenient, but in this time of diminished articulacy, we need all the words we can get. Thank you for doing your part to protect our shared vocabulary.

@grammargirl I'm not convinced the British know how to pronounce anything, they're just making it up all the time.Don't even start on spelling.

@grammargirl The OED just changed servers and may still be getting things set up. If you contact customer support, login timeout is the kind of thing that OUP will consider and bring to their vendors to have fixed.

@grammargirl I mailed them about this a couple of months ago (the login timeout, not the orangutans) and was told they were "looking into a change that would lessen the amount of times that users are asked to log in during sessions", but they did not have an ETA. Maybe if we promise to lock our office doors to keep the word thieves out.

@grammargirl I didn't know there were that many pronunciations. I did notice that "orang" was used as a #NYTSpellingBee word recently. Is it true that orang-utan translates to jungle-man in Malay? Heard that as a child.

@grammargirl If you can so easily without additional 2FA devices login into your bank account, you might consider changing banks? Because their security sucks?
