Just a reminder that corporate-run, algorithm-driven social media (TikTok, Xitter, etc.) is now full of harrowing videos from the Israel-Hamas war. If you're an adult, then it's your choice to watch, but you might want to consider removing such apps from your children's phones. Apparently, a message was sent out to all Israeli parents from their children's schools, suggesting that they remove social media apps from their children's phones to avoid seeing such videos. #Israel #Hamas #Gaza

I’m probably going to be staying off social media and the news media for the next few days. I haven’t seen any pictures or videos, but even just READING about it in the news and on Reddit is absolutely soul destroying. Thank God I gave up Facebook, Xitter, and Instagram several years ago! #Israel #Hamas #GazaI’ll spend the rest of my day in Second Life, deliberately escaping from harsh, brutal, demented, subhuman reality, and trying to protect what’s left of my mental and emotional health.

Quote from r/WorldNews: “There’s a lot of extremely disturbing videos and images being shared around right now…You can be just as informed and aware of the situation without viewing this stuff, and watching it will only cause real trauma for yourself. Even investigatory journalists use post-it notes to cover disturbing details when analysing these videos.Be mindful of your mental health and take breaks from this endless depressing news cycle too.”More information: https://www.bellingcat.com/resources/2022/11/23/how-to-maintain-mental-hygiene-as-an-open-source-researcher/
