Modern houses must be so easy having conduit everywhere, rather than HTF am I going to get a cable from there....

@penguin42 sounds boring, drilling holes in everything is part of the fun!

@penguin42 Mine has all the cables run through the loft and inside the stud walls.Due to the configuration of the roof, some parts at the front (which is where the CU and fibre box are) are really difficult to access.

@stardot There's places I think I might be able to drill holes but then wonder hth I'd find the other end.

@wyliecoyoteuk I've got very few stud walls; up stairs going up and over is doable; downstairs is harder. There is a void, but only one real place to get from it and it's not fun. But then it's not under everywhere - so there are some areas with solid floors; an awful lot seems to involve going under upstairs carpeted areas.

@penguin42 ah yes, the old wormhole in a wall. Just makes it more exciting, no?

@penguin42 What cables are you running?

@wyliecoyoteuk At the moment I'd like to get another alarm cable in, but the paths of some of the ethernet are just crazy.

@penguin42 That's why I resorted to Powerline for some stuff. In our old house I ran Ethernet under the floors where possible, also I had boxed in central heating pipes from upstairs down.I also used this stuff on top of the skirting board.https://www.toolstation.com/d-line-mini-cable-trunking-trade-pack-3m/p57658?ranMID=46390&ranEAID=pfxNKSnglIM&ranSiteID=pfxNKSnglIM-ZvvQ9MjOTDAk0bpHuzSvwA

@wyliecoyoteuk Yeh so I was planning to use some of that (or actually the squarer version) but what I failed at today was figuring out how to get the end of that run to where I wanted it; so I need to solve that first.

@penguin42@wyliecoyoteuk IMHO square looks better and you can butt it to door casings etc. However, You can spend lots of time and money looking for neat and tidy routes for cables , but in many cases, it is faster to get out your hammer and chisel and dig out a path , then fill and paint over it.I ran cables in houses and offices for many years and once you get over the hurdle of bashing a hole in someones wall, the job gets easier.Good luck !

@stannard @penguin42 IKn my new house, the skirting and architrave is flat on top, so the smaller D shape 20mmx10mm stuff (https://www.toolstation.com/d-line-cable-trunking-3m/p57441) is just big enough for 2 Ethernet cables and sits tidily on the top or side, not stuck to the wall, and is almost invisible. It is also a one piece solution, the top is hinged on one side.
