       A very popular twitter account on #Ukraine news says they are creating a bluesky account, as a sort of *just in case* outlet:https://nitter.net/IAPonomarenko/status/1711094024977691085I just don't get it what takes them so long. Musk openly spreads russian propaganda, mocks Ukrainian people and their struggle, tries to silence them, and Illia is doing this only now, and even then, as a sort of backup account.......... just nuts how strong is the hold to not leave.

       @laimis I think he had a Mastodon account last year but stopped using it.

       @anderspuckI completely stopped using Twitter this year and use Mastodon exclusively - and while my access to news dried up for a while, I feel it improved recently as the user base grows. In the end I hope the OSINT community and journalists choose the Fedi.@laimis

       @hajovonta @laimis Me too. But I don't think it will happen before we get quote posts.

       @anderspuck @laimis There's a bot account that replicates Twitter: @iaponomarenko

       @anderspuck oh really, good to know, thanks for the heads up!Too bad he didn't stick around. Looks like @Tendar was going strong here for a while but has stopped posting again. You should be the role model for these accounts, love your presence here and engagement.

       @jramskov @laimis That's not the one I am talking about. I think he gave it about a month after the big migration in November but ultimately left because Mastodon is too complicated, and there is no activity here. 🤷‍♂️

       @laimis Yes, it's really annoying that these people stop posting. But I think one of the problems is that someone like @Tendar only follows 14 accounts himself. So when he looks in his timeline, it looks like there is nothing going on.

       @anderspuck @jramskov @laimis At this point I'm fairly certain a good chunk of complexity is because there's no algorithm suggesting new accounts or mining your contacts list.As to the original post, it's a difficult balance - stay and fight and you just help Musk's website metrics look better, leave and you cede the narrative entirely to $8 bluechecks

       @anderspuck @Tendar 100%, inertia is one hell of a drug. We are so used to certain way that social media should behave...

       @krieger22 @jramskov @laimis I don't think it's a difficult balance. The idea that you can meaningfully stay and fight is naive when the other side owns the algorithm.

       @krieger22 @anderspuck @jramskov I get not completely abandoning to make sure you spread the information as wide as possible. But it shouldn't be too hard to replicate your posts on 2 or 3 or even 4 platforms. Especially if your main one has been hijacked by a moron that is being infected by propaganda that your enemy spreads. That's the part that I just struggle to understand. OK, don't leave, but why not cross post (and not via bird make up).

       @laimis @krieger22 @jramskov I think @Loukas has a good point here, that there is a lot of instant gratification in dunking on Musk too, so for many there is a dopamine rush in "staying and fighting".https://mastodon.nu/@Loukas/111164812617078861

       @anderspuck @laimis @krieger22 @jramskov Yes, and engagement helps with crowdfunding, so I can totally understand why a lot of Ukrainan accounts are staying as long as they can. But the networking and information-sharing elements of twitter are becoming degraded very fast, hence the need for people to diversify even as they need to stay as long as possible.

       @anderspuck @krieger22 @jramskov @laimis I’ve also heard people insisting to continue calling the platform “Twitter” as an act of defiance. As if it will change reality.

       @anderspuck @laimis @Tendar This is the main reason I try to interact with the posts that these "super posters" of interesting news/opinions make. A Like (or a Favourite, as it is here on Mastodon) is like putting a coin in their tip jar. They see that people read/watch their posts and appreciate them.

       @EvilCartyen @jramskov @laimis Yes, I also think it's very simple. You open the app and interact with posts like everywhere else. But I hear people complain about the complexity all the time.
