Doesn't Darwin suggest that no one or no thing belongs anywhere? That indigenous and invasive species are just human constructions? Vulnerable species dying off in competition with other species is perfectly natural and the its prevention is quixotic, right? Someone punch me.

@chris we have learned that biodiversity is good. Many invasive species create monocultures.

@hulavikih Well, being able to compete with natural selection is gorgeously heuristic and quixotic. Sexy AF!

@chris it is the same idea that people are worried about man-made climate change. If the change is caused by people, people should consider the impact it will have, in their continued ability to survive. If a change is not caused by people, then so be it.'Invasive' species were transported from one place to another by people. It doesn't include species spreading/moving to new places via other means.

@thoughtcriminal unless humans are non-terran gods or visitors, we're animals, we're mammals, we're terrans, and the things we do are perfectly natural--as natural as the migration of the Right Whale. Humans forget we are both mortal and animals. The quicker we die out/go extinct, the better for the Right Whale. But people really don't have the stones for sudden intentional global suicide. If we make science and medicine illegal globally, the population will normalize within a generation.

@chris right. But while it might be better for the whales if humans go extinct sooner, it isn't better for the humans. So being wary of causing the balance to be changed is a survival mechanism.
