@FemaleIsNotAFeeling The US didn’t “give” Iran the money. There was a deal to unlock Iran’s own money that had been sanctioned, to be used strictly for humanitarian purposes. Iirc, Qatar and S Korea have to approve each transaction. Yes, there will be grift. And it’s not “happening now”:

@Flick Even if that's true, they still hate us regardless and always will. Tale as old as time.

@FemaleIsNotAFeeling Well, your country murdered their democratically elected leader in 1953 and proceeded to install the Shah, considered at the time the biggest torturer in the world. Things might have gone a little differently if Americans weren't so damn ignorant of what their government is up to.

@susansiens If they hate us so much, they shouldn't be begging us for money to be honest. Frankly, I don't really care what happened there 70 years ago. They are ungrateful and hate us, because we don't worship Allah. That's not going to change frankly.Americans are suffering and we could've used that money to help tackle the homeless crisis, housing crisis, or any number of stuff here. Oh well.

@FemaleIsNotAFeeling Well, I would suggest you think about the countries we are currently pursuing "regime change" in. Why the fuck should Iran be grateful? Support the women's movement in Iran and let Iranians fix their own country. I'm sure the U.S. did not give Iran $6 billion out of the goodness of their rotten hearts.

@susansiens I mean if they're not grateful for 6 billion they can surely do without it. They'll keep chanting death to America no matter what. They were chanting that even before the 50s. That is one of the most, if not, the most toxic country for women's rights in the world. It's trash. I'll continue to support the women's rebellion there in any way I can, but the men and their toxic religion can get fucked as far as I'm concerned.

@susansiens @FemaleIsNotAFeeling I agree in part. I especially disagree with the last part of your post. I always read people justifying MENA extreme misogyny, pedophilia and other repulsive aspects of their culture by saying western oppression is to blame (not saying this is what you're doing). Let's think this through though, why are women punished in these places in times of crisis? I don't see the supposed direct connection implied by some that exists between being a country at economical disadvantage in the geopolitical scenario and having to treat women like shit. Things would certainly have gone down different if the USA and the british hadn't meddled in that election, but regardless of the west, geopolitics, economics, etc extreme misogyny has a great presence among MENA that dates back a long, long time. Of course this is true of all countries, but misogyny is and my impression is that it has always been stronger there. I'm not a historian, so feel free to correct me, but I know certain different cultural aspects of different people are not rooted in economics and foreign oppression. Its like when people want to convince me that the apparent higher levels of negative attitudes towards animals in Asia is resulted from a history with famine. Its bullshit and I'm not even sure if they all dealt with famine

@RadLola @FemaleIsNotAFeeling @susansiens it's well known the CIA and british were involved in the coup against mosadeq. https://www.npr.org/2019/01/31/690363402/how-the-cia-overthrew-irans-democracy-in-four-days

@meowski @FemaleIsNotAFeeling @susansiens I know this. I read a book specifically about Iran and that coup. Although to be honest I don't remember much from it. It was a good read though, I remember that. Recommended
