@Sherri_Ingrey Peterson isn't in the video. It's more about Sam Vaknin insights it's very interesting. Because he is being interviewed as opposed to just doing a teaching video. We really need people like Sam to get involved with tackling the Woke.

Maybe a child doesn't want to hug her grandfather -- she has a good reason, he creeps her out at best and god knows what's worst -- and she's told to ignore her feelings and hug him anyhow. I had a massage therapist who hoorahed Ronald Reagan when she was a teenager (!) and then she told me about her grandfather who gave his daughters "massages" every evening before bed (my mother would never have permitted such a thing). No wonder she found a creepy grandfather-type appealing.

Suppose I made a speech along the lines of:“One of the dangers of AI is that some people argue it ends up knowing us better than we know ourselves, and makes better decisions on things like marriage, political decisions, career choices, than we can make for ourselves - so we should accept that the illusion of free will is just that… So for us, living in an age of ever more sophisticated AI we need to think about how to carve out a space for free choices, not just take it for granted.”Just selectively cut the bit in the middle in italics, and I end up looking just as mad as Harari does here. Which makes me wonder what the whole thing looked like in context.(Bit like Boris Johnson’s infamous “Muslim women look like letterboxes” article, which I read in its entirety at the time. He was actually responding to Denmark’s decision to ban the burqa and arguing against secular states imposing restrictions on religious dress. The thrust of his argument was “while I personally may think they look like a letterbox, it’s a free society and people should be allowed to wear what they like, or we all end up having our freedoms restricted.” But the only bit people ever quote is “Boris Johnson said Muslim women look like letterboxes.” Incidentally, I think BJ is a turd who won’t flush, but that particular criticism is still unjustified.)

He’s not saying “great, AI will give us the means to control the masses.”

We would never be so stupid as to cede control to an AI, but here's how it will gain control:We will give it a problem that will take years to solve and the AI will solve it in far less time, then we'll say "Hey, let's give it other problems to solve!" and it will solve those problems until we put so much trust in it to solve our problems that it turning the AI off would be tantamount to suicide.

@Rogue_Koala @william @HebrideanHecate @Sherri_Ingrey Very good!Though another of my worries is that if you ask it a serious, technical question (I’ve tested this in my own field of expertise - PhD plus 20 years postdoc experience in the field), it can quite rapidly deliver absolute bollocks.And the trouble is if you (the person posing the question) aren’t an expert in the field, it’s tempting to think “well, AI is trained on this massive pool of data so it won’t make a mistake, so this is the correct answer.”And you end up in this situation where human beings are making quite serious policy decisions about stuff that matters to all of us, based on policy documents which peddle supposedly factual information to use to inform those decision, which was cobbled together by some twit of an intern fresh out of an undergraduate degree who was a bit under the cosh on the time front and thought “I’ll ask Chat GPT the answer to this.”It’ll end up looking like the “oh, yah, well, we’ll just have electronic borders, yah, won’t we Tarquin?” scene in the recent “Partygate” reconstruction, but amped up to 11.
