Hey there, friends! 👋 In case you missed it, we had a fantastic chat with @RuthBenGhiat earlier this week about the rise of authoritarianism in the U.S. If you haven't checked it out, head to #TheBigPicture for the full interview! Trust me, it's a conversation you'll want to be a part of: https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/big-questions-answers-ruth-ben-ghiat

@georgetakei That's an overgeneralization. Hitler didn't live in fear of Germans. They loved him and that's how he got his cannon fodder.

@markvonwahlde @georgetakei Mark, Hitler was paranoid and could never relax around people, nor did he really trust anyone. He only loved animals, not people. Especially the last days during WW II showed much of Hitler's Paranoia.

@Svenja_Tenkes @georgetakei Agreed he was paranoid as all get out after the war turned sour and he was doped up by Morell. But before the war he presented as charming. The prewar mass rallies and the up-close encounters are evidence of the Germans' undeniable love for him. He had the Gestapo tracking public opinion. He had to know they loved him (excepting the out groups, of course).
