Could anyone give me recommendations for a password manager? Google is basically useless now and I don't know anywhere else to ask. 😅 So far, I've never found one that I trust enough to use. I do understand the importance but I'm extremely, incredibly hesitant to hand over my passwords to a 3rd party program. I'm even more hesitant to use randomly-generated passwords that I can't memorize as a backup. All that being said, here's what's important to me:Transparency - public audits, published whitepaper, and/or open source.Export to a printable format. I don't have reliable backups, so this is a must-have!Works with desktop & mobile Firefox.Works on Windows & Linux (I regularly use both).Works on Android - not critical, but would be really helpful. Can work offline (I don't trust any sync server to stay online). For everything else, I'm more flexible. I don't mind paying a small amount for a better / more trustworthy option, either.Any suggestions, recommendations, or just boosts are appreciated! Thanks so much in advance! 💙 #PasswordManager #PasswordManagers #Password #Security #ComputerSecurity

@hazel I generally recommend Bitwarden first. It syncs to a vault which can be at Bitwarden or self hosted yourself which I do with Vaultwarden. If the server is unavailable for a period, you simply can't sync any changes. KeypassXC is a local focused option which can be synced to a server. For people with less technical aptitude and user experience requirements, I suggest Bitwarden, but for those who can and want to manage backups of their vaults, I recommend KeypassXC.

@hazel I moved from bitwarden to KeePassXC (keepassDX for Android)It saves everything on a single database file which you can sync however you want, with any service you trust (or don't trust since the file is still encrypted and password protected)So my setup right now is to use KeePass and sync the file using my own nextcloud. Works offline too since it just syncs the changes and I can just keep using the file locally while not having a connectionIt also has OTP for 2FA (Bitwarden does have it as well but its a paid feature) which is the reason I movedAll in all, the experience has been quite nice. I can recommend it

@novenary @hazel I would've selfhosted vaultwarden but I found how to make KeePass work for me and its a way simpler solutionHowever it doesn't have the other features bitwarden might have like encrypted sharing and stuff like that but I didn't really use any. Also bitwarden has family plans and stuff but my family just wouldn't really use a password manager so I stopped fighting that warI just save their important passwords in my db just in case they need it, that's it
