Today on the bench: a Poljot 2614.2H. All in working order, I’m just going through the motions for fun and practice. Some fun design choices with this one. One of the calendar springs is actually fixed in place, not removable. No idea what I’ll do if it broke, but it’s one less part that’s tricky to remove, tricky to install, and easy to lose.More importantly, same is true for the yoke spring! I’ve never seen that before. These are famously Born To Fly, they’re deceptively strong and will happily fuck off to the other side of the room. A nice touch! Also not pictured, but equally amusing – this one does have the infamous Soviet balance shim – a thin sheet of stamped metal they put between the balance bridge and the base plate, to compensate for the tolerances they fucked up elsewhere. In this movement however, it’s a really well made balance shim – sturdy, perfectly sized, and it grabs on to the baseplate spokes nicely, so it doesn’t slide around when you’re installing the balance back on. It’s like they knew they’ll need it, so they actually though it through and made it as good as they can. Cool!#watches #watchmaking #watchrepair

And here's all of it (before cleaning, obviously).
