no pressing need? i mean stuff like memory support is fine, or do you have >18,446,744 TB of ram or something? And surely we're not running out of opcodes??

@ConsoleWitch I could totally be wrong. I'm not a processor designer. But here's how I understand it. Widening the register's biggest effect is being able to address more ram. 64bits let us address so much ram we're not even approaching how much we can physically fit in a system.Other parts of our systems have actually moved to 128bit as needed already. It's the internet, so if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

@ConsoleWitch Per PC Mag 64bits can address 18 quntillion bytes of ram. https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/128-bit-computingPer Bing GPT math that's 16.384 exabytes of ram.

@ConsoleWitch processor are already 512bits now
