To a certain degree the criti-hype around "dark patterns" is very much a method for designers to feel powerful, to be "in charge" as much as the tech people.

@tante I haven't seen any calls for teaching ethics to designers yet? I'd assume that only then are you really powerful, when people don't want to take away you power, but "teach you ethics" so you'll be less evil...

@tante in videogames this takes the form of certain highly punchable designers adopting a sort of drug dealer swagger, as amoral as any cruise missile software developer but paid and respected 10X less with job security to match.
