Feels like not enough people are/ever were concerned with the "hey how do I try to make as sure as possible I don't give this to anyone ELSE" part of this whole pandemic shit. Kind of glaring to me, at the moment.

@Wolven Yes there was a brief bit at the beginning "I mask for you, you mask for me" and then everyone collectively decided to ignore that and I still don't understand why. I try real hard to remember it's not all about me. It's hard when all the language around "wear a mask" is individual-oriented.

@Wolven You're speaking about a society whose first overwhelming response to the pandemic was to clear out all the toilet paper.

@Wolven Right? I traveled recently via plane to a memorial service, THAT MANY OTHERS TRAVELLED TO VIA AIRPLANE (ahem) and me and my son were the only people wearing masks. Most of the attendees were over 70. I just (heavy sigh) can't understand it. A mask is such a simple thing.

@Wolven This was a very important aspect for me in the beginning. I hated the thought of possibly infecting people and ruining their lives. At this point in time though, I pretty much only care about preventing this for a small set of people I am close to. I have given up being concerned about random strangers, as none of them seem concerned about me. My masking in public is now mainly about protecting myself. The fact that my most recent RAT result might be a false negative is less important.

@Wolven If I knew I preventably transmitted covid to someone else and killed or harmed them, I don't know how I could live with that.

@Wolven before the pandemic we routinely killed about 40,000 people every year by being careless about spreading the flu. In the first year of the pandemic we demonstrated that at any time we could have stopped killing tens of thousands of people every year. Maybe we didn’t really know that before then, but now we know. And now we’ve decided that we not going to stop, we know we could stop, but we’re choosing to continue killing tens of thousands of people every year

@Wolven We were already in the, "this is probably just a cold, let's go have fun" phase in mid 2020.

@Wolven It's the greatest challenge. How to immediately teach a society who has internalized and externalized violence to have empathy. I think about this all the time and try to demonstrate empathy? So much work to do.

@Wolven family have come to visit me (medically vulnerable) and calmly walked into shops unmasked or gone off and come back to my house talking about how they were just eating inside. I can't kick them out at that point, but how do they expect me to respond? I'm supposed to sit and be polite with family who just told me they're happy for me to die so they can eat a panini indoors??

@Wolven I think I’m the only one I know who uses a home Covid test before I go to the doctor because I don’t want to infect them the most out of everyone I don’t want to infect. It took me many years to find good medical providers who can handle chronic illness. If something happens to them I suffer greatly.
