If you had to choose an automatic #motorcycle or #scooter, which of these transmissions would you choose?

@purple I test rode an NC700X years ago and it's what motivated me to get over my fear of the clutch. Its early generation DCT was super clunky. Now I love the clutch. :blobfoxcomfy:

@tk I've never tried a DCT, but the Apirila SR160 is a *lot* of fun

@yuvipanda Have you ever tried a 400cc maxi-scooter? I had one of those for a while until I got more comfortable with traditional manual transmissions.

@tk ah nope! Those do sound fun! The SR 160 was fun because it was so light, had a tiny wheelbase and a lot of power for its size. It rattled and was not exactly 'comfortable' but it was a lot of fun. I suspect a maxi scooter will lose some of that

@tk Some assumptions here. A normal scooter is not powerful and only covers short distances. Its transmission does not need to handle a lot of torque and does not need to last long. That is why it's an ideal application for a CVT. But a typical motorcycle is anywhere between 20 and 100 times more powerful, and may be used for long distance travel.

@tk Automotive CVTs continue their development, and they handle ever increasing loads. I'm not surprised Burgman uses a CVT even on a 400cc engine driving a 200+ kg scooter.
