I got into listening to podcasts when @Ashens was part of the #sequelisers. I used Stitcher, which was then sundowned. Tried other apps and left it for a while, until I got long commutes again and used something on am iPhone to listen to one of the many podcasts from @film_girl.Then went back to Android using #GooglePodcasts, which has been recently announced to be on its way out.1/4

I got hooked by many pods from #KevinSmith. Found more podcasts from #FilmGirl, lots of awesome!I also found others with titles like "What to do when _blank_ happens at work?" and promptly unsubscribed when all of them just pushed the same answer: "You, worker, are always at fault" (including one that suggested that one should cater to toxic managers, and keep them happy).Then I discovered #TheTechnicalDifficulties, #TheExploringSeried, and #TheMagnusArchives .So much fun!2/4

But now that #GooglePodcasts is going to be substituted by #YoutubeMusic... Hey, quick parentheses, I never liked that Spotify went into Podcasts but liked it less when they paid notoriously bigoted, alt-right, bully, loud mouthed, conspiracy-pushing hosts. That's why Ioved to Deezer and then decided to leave the Music as a Service providers. I won't get back to those any time soon.So what to do then?3/4

I have a few options from #FDroid. #podverse looks like a nice tool.By means of a reccomendation, I've also installed #PocketCasts by #AutomatticInc (makers of Wordpress).I'll drive them both for a while and bring back some results.Stay tuned![EDIT: #Podverse is out of the race as it's got crypto stuff that I care nothing about.Instead we're going with @AntennaPod.]4/4

@ddlyh @podverse uses something called V4V and states clearly it's to send bitcoin to your favorite creators...I'd would have preferred links to their preferred methods of subscription/donations rather than crypto.

@ddlyh @rebeccafinn hi all, we respect your opinion if you don't want to any proximity to cryptocurrency.I just wanted to say, "value for value" is not specific to Bitcoin. It is as it sounds just returning value for value.We integrate with Bitcoin Lightning because it is the only financial transaction system today that allows 1-click micro-transactions with very low fees. If a fiat currency platform allows us to integrate these features, we will, but as of today, none to our knowledge exist

@ddlyh @rebeccafinn we actually make it a point to not put Bitcoin front and center, instead on mentioned within the Value for Value menu, so it's less distracting for people who have no interest in it. That said, we hope to support many currencies with value for value. We are neutral to currency preference. It just happens that the Bitcoin developers have created an open system that offers 1-click rapid low fee transactions, while fiat currency platforms don't support our use cases (yet).

@ddlyh @rebeccafinn @AntennaPod I'd like to address "RSS 3" quick too...Podverse supports RSS. We don't support RSS 3, we couldn't explain what RSS 3 is, and its developers have shown no interest in improving the actual RSS standard, or collaborating with existing RSS standards bodies. imo they're inventing a new problem, then claiming to solve it, when the existing RSS standard is perfectly capable of adapting to any use case a podcaster needs.
