@stephagain @AnungIkwe We had a similar assignment in my 9th grade English class, but it was intended to show us the futility of arguing over whose life is worth more. I imagine this assignment is similar.

@AnungIkwe @stephagain The assignment we were given looked almost identical to this but of course less topical to today's issues. It was designed to get the class arguing in a way that culminated in a lecture we got about how there is no good answer to this question because any point has an equally valid counterpoint to it and every answer causes immeasurable suffering. It certianly was not to teach us to value any lives more than others. The identity parts of this were designed to make students grapple with their biases, too. We also can't jump to conclusions on things like this with no context - that's what the wokies do.

@softwarepagan @AnungIkwe @stephagain I remember doing a similar assignment. Luckily we had a good teacher who made sure we came away understanding that everyone has something to offer, and that a one sentence summary cannot tell you much about a person. In the hands of a less skilled teacher, this could lead to some really awful lessons.

There is nothing left but "less skilled teachers." Teachers are quitting in droves because of RJ, PBIS and BIST and having to teach "queer theory."RJ = Restorative Justice PBIS = Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports BIST = Behavior Intervention Support Team

@AnungIkwe @softwarepagan @stephagain I can't really tell who this is aimed at, seeing as both softwarepagan and myself are saying that we had this lesson in school and the aim of it was NOT to teach us that some lives are more valuable than others.Teaching kids doesn't always involve sitting them down and saying stuff at them until they know it. Sometimes it involves starting discussions that lead them to draw those conclusions for themselves as realisation dawns on them that the question is unfair or flawed. And this is what the linked worksheet could achieve, in the right hands.
